about

From Jim Olsen:
When I first thought about composing a piece using "Oregon sounds," I knew that I wanted to work with material that I was emotionally connected to. When I moved here in 1977, I arrived in Eugene via the Amtrak's Coast Starlight. My first sonic memories of Oregon are hearing the train rattling through a dense forest, then suddenly blowing its whistle as we neared a railroad crossing. Once I had that "palette" in mind, all that I had to do was think back to that trip and recall the emotions that were running through my head during the day and night that I spent on the train. The result was "Migration."
